Ballypatrick Auctions 2024: A Showcase of Quality Young Horses and Global Appeal

Dec 30, 2024

Ballypatrick Auctions marked its third consecutive year on the 28th of December with an extraordinary demonstration of strength, depth, and quality in the equine market. This year’s collection, curated with precision by Greg Broderick and the Ballyaptrick team, featured 25 Lots of the finest prospects available, attracting bidders from around the globe.

The standout lot of the auction was Orange De Baugy, an exceptional mare by Dominator x Barbarian, crowned the 5-Year-Old Champion at the FEI WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championship for Young Horses 2024. Orange De Baugy was sold to a bidder in the United Kingdom for an impressive €416,000, underscoring her world-class potential.

Close behind in terms of sale value were more promising 5-year-olds:

  • Jasmin D’Ariel (Panama Tame x Diamant de Semilly), an impressive modern type, sold to a US buyer for €373,000.
  • Janus De Vains (Emerald Van’t Ruytershof x Destinee De Vains), bred from a 1.60m jumping mare currently ridden by Mark McCauley, sold for €298,000, also to the United States.

The auction also highlighted impressive results for younger horses, with three of the five 4-year-olds fetching over €100,000 each. Making just under this figure, the top-selling 3-year-old, BP Chapeau Z, achieved a strong price that reflects his proven quality and pedigree. He is a stallion by Chacco Blue out of a dam by Baloubet du Rouet (1.60m)—a mare who has already produced the successful stallion Carrera VDL.

This collection also included two highly impressive ponies that made for a fantastic addition to the auction; 6-year-old BP Ooh La La and 7-year-old Monbeg Amber. Both mares, these ponies with huge potential sold for significant prices and will head to Sweden and Denmark to their new owners.

Ballypatrick’s homebred horses also made notable prices, with BP Maganix—a 3-year-old gelding by Aganix and out of a Je T’Aime Flamenco x Pacino mare—making €72,000. BP Maganix hails from an elite lineage that includes BP Wakita (Pacino), a 5* 1.60m jumper.

Bidders from a diverse array of countries, including Spain, Portugal, Qatar, Kuwait, Morocco, the United States, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Egypt, Germany, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Mexico, Guatemala, and France, participated in the auction, reflecting its truly global appeal.

Greg Broderick expressed his gratitude, stating:

“This year’s auction has been phenomenal, and it’s amazing to see these incredible horses going to top riders and owners worldwide. Each year, the auction just keeps getting better and stronger, and I couldn’t be more proud of what the team has achieved. I’m really looking forward to seeing these horses excel in their new homes.”

The Ballypatrick team extends their heartfelt thanks to all bidders and buyers for their participation, as well as everyone who contributed to the event’s success. For further information on Ballypatrick Auctions and their exceptional offerings, visit ballypatrickauctions.com.
